I’m not your classic cardigan-wearing psychologist.
You’re more likely to catch me in a tee and sneakers - talking footy, lifting something heavy, sweating it out on a Concept2 Rower, or bingeing a Netflix doco - than quoting Freud. But don’t let the laid-back vibe fool you. I’ve been through some heavy stuff, and I’ve got the experience (and qualifications) to back it up.
After paying off uni the first time, I came back swinging - earned Honours in Psych, joined the Army, climbed from Lieutenant to Major, and served in East Timor, the Solomons, and Afghanistan. Then came the hard bit: figuring out who I was without the uniform.
Since then, I’ve stumbled through addiction, recovery, starting over, and building a national men’s psych service from the ground up. I’ve knocked over a Master of Business and I’m deep in my Master of Clinical Psychology. I’ve led teams, rebuilt my life, and learned just how messy and human mental health really is.
That’s why I speak the way I do - with honesty, humour, and zero judgement. I want to help people check in with their mental health before they’re curled up in the fetal position. No lectures, no sermons - just real, practical perspective from someone who’s lived a little.
I also proudly support LIVIN, the mental health charity behind It Ain’t Weak to Speak. Together, we’re chipping away at stigma and making support feel human - not clinical, not out of reach.
Whether I’m speaking to a boardroom, a school, or a packed-out conference, my goal’s the same: make looking after your mental health feel less like a chore - and more like something we can all actually do, without freaking the hell out.
